The Towson homecoming crowd roared with excitement and anticipation as the Generals got set for the opening kickoff. The Towson Generals varsity football team was set to face off the Kenwood Bluebirds.

The Generals were looking to get a win for the homecoming crowd after coming off a nasty 42-0 blowout loss to the Dundalk owls.

The game kicked-off with the kick returner on the Bluebirds sending the ball to the 30-yard line. From there, the Bluebirds started their drive led by their quarter and running back. After coming up short on the drive, the Bluebirds punted the ball to the General’s wide receiver Tyvion Wilson, who returned it to the General’s 40-yard line. From there, the Generals offense took the field and began their drive, led by the General’s quarterback Rodger Holocombe III, or better known as (RH3).

The Generals gained effective yards from QB dashes from RH3, powerful runs from running back Jackson Hayes, and explosive strides from wide receiver Tyvion Wilson.  The General’s drive lead to a field goal from kicker Leighton Bechdel, which put the Generals in the lead 3-0.

Following the General’s field goal, things heated up. The high-paced Bluebirds offense came back with a powerful drive lead by the running backs #2 and #15, resulting in a Bluebird touchdown. After missing the extra point kick the score was 3-6, with Kenwood in the lead.

The game progressed and the Generals ended another hard drive with a field goal, tying the score 6-6. The Bluebirds would then score another touchdown, changing the tit-for-tat score to 12-6, as a result of the Bluebirds missing their extra-point kick. The Generals offense would take the field again and quickly find a reply for the Bluebirds with running back Alex Simmet scoring a five yard touchdown, once again equalizing the score to 12-12.

From there things got crazy. The Bluebirds got the ball back and drove it into the red-zone territory. Kenwood’s QB dropped back and looked for his receiver in the corner, making the pass, only to see cornerback Tyrell cook of the Generals intercept the pass and take it back six yards.

The Generals offense had once again regained possession of the ball and had a first down. RH3 threw a swing pass to  Alex Simmet , where Alex was quickly met by the cornerback on the tackle, causing Alex to fumble and turn the ball over to the Bluebirds once again in the redzone. The General’s goal line defense held the Bluebirds  in the redzone and kept them from scoring on a crucial 4th down play, where defensive end  Anthony Grant and linebacker Alex Simmet  tackled the Bluebirds running back in the back field.

As time ran out, the homecoming thriller went into overtime. The Bluebirds won the toss and their offense took the field first. The General’s tough goal line defense held out the Bluebirds once more on the first two plays.

Devastatingly, the Bluebirds connected with a touchdown pass on 3rd down making the score 20-12 – Bluebirds. The Generals then had their chance to score and tie up the game – or perhaps win it. On the 1st down, Alex Simmet had a powerful run, blasting the Generals close to the goal line. On the next play, RH3 was sacked for a loss of yards. Then came the big 3rd down. RH3 dropped back in the pocket, looking down the field for a touchdown pass. After five seconds of surveying, Rodger aimed in the middle of the field for wide receiver Jack Bell. The ball was intercepted and the game was over.

The Generals came up short in a hard fought homecoming game against the Bluebirds. The final score was 20-12 Kenwood.
