Chiefs Spark Dynasty, Win Super Bowl 25-22

Much to a lot of people’s chagrin, the Kansas City Chiefs repeated as Super Bowl Champions as they beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime. The game started off pretty slow as it was more of a defensive slugfest. Both teams had crucial fumbles in the first half. But overall San Francisco had control for the vast majority of the game. But on a 3rd and 4 with time running down San Francisco had a chance to basically clinch the game with a conversion. But a masterful call by Steve Spagnola sending Trent Mcduffie on the blitz got a stop and San Francisco had to settle for three. Then Mahomes would do what he always does and marched down the field to set up a field goal to send the game to overtime. This was the first game under the new overtime rules and the 49ers won the toss but made the confusing decision to receive first. There really was no good explanation and it was clear Kyle Shannahan did not have a plan for this scenario. With multiple Niners saying they didn’t even know about the new rules. So with all the pressure in the world for the Niners’ offense to score they only managed to get three. And of course, Patrick Mahomes put up a masterclass of a drive to win the game capped off by a touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman to win his 3rd Super Bowl.

With this win the Kansas City Chiefs have repeated as Super Bowl Champions for the first time since the Patriots did it in the 2000s. No team has ever 3-peated as champions in the NFL. This Super Bowl win also puts Mahomes firmly on pace to match or surpass Tom Brady. Mahomes has an absurd resume at only 28. While trying to surpass Brady would be a monumental task, if Mahomes becomes the first to 3-peat ever that would be a very convincing argument. For the man with a newly required reputation of bad blood: Travis Kelce, he has firmly put himself in the greatest TE of all time conversation and is at minimum the second best all time. And in my opinion after he retires he will surpass Rob Gronkowski.

As for Big Red himself Andy Reid, he has done a complete turn around on his coaching career going from all time choker to one of the greatest to ever do it. While those 3 are the big 3 of Kansas City, Chris Jones, Trent Mcduffie, and coordinator Steve Spagnola were all masterful in the Super Bowl. But on the other hand, San Francisco is in a really bad state. This is the 3rd Super Bowl Kyle Shannahan has choked away and this Super Bowl is a lot on him. He failed to adjust to the Chiefs’ defensive game plan and horribly under utilized Brandon Aiyuk. Deebo Samuel and George Kittle were two absolute non factors in this game and Christian McCaffery was effectively stopped. Now with Brock Purdy demanding a contract soon and Brandon Aiyuk seemingly wanting out, the Niners’ might’ve closed. So for anyone not living in the Kansas City area, let’s pray that next year Joe Burrow can save the NFL from the Chiefs Dynasty.
