Farewell Badminton Seniors

Farewell Badminton Seniors

Over the years, the Towson badminton team has been home to players of many different talents and skills.  At the end of each season, the time comes for the senior players on the team to move on to new challenges.  Prior to the game against Eastern Tech on October 11, Coach Sonneborn awarded seniors of the 2013 THS Badminton with medallions to commemorate their dedication and devotion.

Co-captain Yucong Shi, the number one girls’ singles player, has been on the team for the past four years.  Yucong explains that because she joined the team after the season began in her freshman year, she was unable to be a starter that year; however, for the past three years, Yucong has wowed the crowd as a permanent starter. Yucong says that since her freshman year she has “become 10,000 times more dedicated to badminton.”

Yucong’s co-captain, Benson Sebastian, had big shoes to fill when he joined the team after his brother’s many successful years as a badminton player.  Benson proved his athletic prowess and skill as a four-year starter.

Coach Sonneborn, with a smile on his face, says, “These are some of the finest student-athletes I’ve gotten to work with in my eleven years of coaching Towson Badminton.”

The Senior Recognition event wasn’t the only thing that brought a smile to Sonneborn’s face.  The Generals won this year’s County Championship for the sixth time in school history.

The seniors will move on, but their legacy will forever be remembered.
