The Red Cross is significant to America’s history. March is Red Cross Month, a celebration of honoring people who contribute to the organization, “Who turn compassion into action, helping others in times of crisis.” It has been an annual tradition since President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first Red Cross Month proclamation in 1943. Now, it is a tradition for each president to name March as Red Cross Month. This month appreciates volunteers, blood donors, financial donors, trained lifesavers, and others. Meaning if you donate blood or volunteer you will be included in the celebration!
The Red Cross is a crucial organization that has inspiring dedication and commitment:
- Responds to 65,000 disasters across America
- Delivers 6.3 million blood products to patients at 2,500 hospitals, which is 40% of the nation’s blood supply
- Trains 5 million people in first aid
- Helps 120 million people outside the US
- Provides more than 510,000 services to service members, veterans, and their families.
If this inspires you to help others as well, get involved! Visit redcross.org to learn how you can help people affected by disasters and life-changing events.
