Upcoming Changes at Kenilworth Mall
For many Towson students, the Kenilworth Mall is a place they have likely spent some time. Whether it be looking at the train garden at Christmas time or watching the fountain as it sprays water in the air, the Kenilworth Mall is a valuable part of the Towson area.
It’s now come out that the old mall is receiving an update to accommodate new stores and give the building a fresh look. The renovations have a $20 million budget and will take place over the coming months. The idea is to allow the mall to compete with the Towson Town Center just a few miles away, which draws in a lot of sales that could go to Kenilworth. While the mall has reported strong sales, they feel that they could do better and the community has called for a more upscale building for some time. Stores have been eager to move into the building, the most notable being Trader Joe’s, as they moved out of the Towson Circle on March 16th and reopened in Kenilworth the following morning.
The plan would give the mall more windows, a rooftop terrace, and a redone entrance. The entrance is supposed to be the highlight of the mall and draw in customers. The interior and exterior of the mall are getting structural and style updates, but it’s clear that the updates will not change the overall feel that customers get when they come to Kenilworth.
The goal is to modernize the whole space and create an environment where people can linger, eat, and shop. Recreating a section of Towson will not be an easy task, but the ambitious plans combined with an expectation of customer satisfaction and excellence should help transform the space into a cornerstone of the community for many years to come.
