Thankless for Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving, America’s excuse to eat. It’s the holiday whose message is to give wholehearted thanks for all that is great in life. Too bad the lesson and meaning of Thanksgiving is rendered pointless because of Black Friday.
With Christmas approaching, I decided to look back on why Thanksgiving is becoming less relevant. I thought of a possible reason on why people don’t care about Thanksgiving as much anymore. It’s because of companies are leaning towards Christmas to boost sales, as the Christmas season is one of the most profitable times of year.
Think of Black Friday, if Thanksgiving is supposed to be a day to give thanks for things we love and hold dear, then why is the next day all about wasting money and buying as many things as possible? Many advertisements have Christmas imagery to make people intertwine Black Friday and Christmas together, as Black Friday is commonly seen as a time to buy all your Christmas presents by media
Black Friday is infamous for having mobs of deranged customers frothing at the mouth, aggressively clawing at the best products to buy. The big companies are trying to contort the meaning of Thanksgiving into being no more meaningful than devouring food and splurging on gifts at the mall
Black Friday is ruining Thanksgiving, from its rabid customers and shoving the idea of materialism down your throat with pre-Christmas sales and advertisements. Black Friday is smothering the Thanksgiving traditions, and this is why Thanksgiving is no longer important.
