Presidential Election 2016
On Tuesday November 8, 2016, election night, I turned on CNN to see who was leading in the polls. I was shocked when it appeared to be Trump in the lead over Clinton. Just as millions of other Americans, I watched tirelessly in hope that Clinton would climb back up in the race and miraculously win the election. But around 12am, as I finally went to bed, I had a pending doubt in my mind that Trump was going to be our President.
When I woke up the next morning to hear “President elect Donald Trump,” I wasn’t surprised, but I was shocked and appalled. It didn’t make sense to me that the American people actually voted for him after hearing all the vulgar, childish, repulsive, and impulsive trash that spewed out of his mouth throughout this election.
Donald Trump himself seemed to be stunned that he won the election. I feel like he viewed this presidential election as just another challenge for him to “Trump.” And those millions of Americans who weren’t in support of his presidency, like myself, are terrified that Trump is too unpredictable and unstable to have the power to be the leader of the free world. I’m especially concerned with Trump’s ability to make responsible decisions about topics like nuclear power and war.
However, the people have spoken, we as Americans, regardless of who we voted for, will make it through these next four years like we do with every election. While this is still devastating to many, the world isn’t going to end.
As President Obama said when he addressed the public, “the sun is still going to rise the next morning.” President elect Donald Trump is who we as the people have put in the oval office, and now we must give him a chance and hope for the best and a better America.
