Opposing Viewpoints: President Elect Trump

Does America Accept Trump?

When I was first told that Trump had won the election, I thought it was a joke. I hadn’t seen the news, or checked online for the final results. I sat up sleepily in my room, trying to decide if Trump could have actually won the election. Two minutes later I decided that there was no way Trump could have won, so I turned on the news.

Eagerly awaiting the “actual results,” I watched the local news until the election results came up (I didn’t have to wait long). When I saw the graph putting Trump over 270 electoral votes, I stood there stunned. Did this actually happen? The mood at school on Wednesday morning was gloomy. It stayed that way the rest of the day as the reality of Trump’s victory sunk into a largely democratic school.

Trump’s victory was a difficult thing to wrap my head around.  We all knew that it happened, but even Trump supporters weren’t quite sure how.  The fact that Donald Trump and Mike Pence will be now in charge of the country is a real-life nightmare. All of the progress and hard work that has gone into bettering the country is about to go down the drain. That’s eight years of policy being reversed.

Trump’s 100 day plan gives us a good idea of what he will be like in charge of the country, and it is the exact opposite of the Obama administration, which took over and brought the country back from a recession. Whatever you think of Trump as a person, he will have control of the world’s most powerful country. We need him to be good. We have four years, 1460 days until the next election. So let’s hope that Trump makes those days count.

You Can’t Stump the Trump, So Stop Trying

Whether you like it or not Donald Trump will be our 45th President, and protesting barbarically will not change the result or outcome of our election.

Donald Trump defied the odds by beating the supposed frontrunner in every poll, Hillary Clinton. His win was arguably the biggest upset in American politics of all time. A clear shocker, but it’s time to accept the reality of our election. We must come together as a country and look toward the future, not the past. What’s been going on in Baltimore, Chicago, New York, and a plethora of other cities is not acceptable. Not to mention rude, but simply un-American.

President-elect Trump won this election deservedly. He out campaigned Hillary in states she thought she had handled, in particular, the rust belt. He energized a conservative movement that swept across the nation, and no one can deny this or take that away from Trump. When people say he doesn’t deserve it, they’re wrong. He won fair and square with everything, including the media against him.

Has Trump made some mistakes? Of course he has but the anti-Trump bashing must end. Let me ask you, do you think if Secretary Clinton would have won there would be any protests throughout the country? No of course not. This is not how you’re supposed to live in civilized America. Everyone has their right to freedom of speech, but our President has been elected and it is crucial to understand we live in a democracy, and Trump won and Hillary lost. This is not only a showing of sore losers, but shows how far America is from being united together.

I love my country, and want to see it succeed in every way possible.  So instead of rioting and protesting, America must step back and give Donald Trump a chance. We must come together as one. After all we are the greatest country in world, so it’s time for every single White, Black, Asian, or Latino American to make sure we keep it that way.
