JV Girls Basketball Prepares To Knockout the Competition

The members of this year’s JV Girls’ Basketball team are readying themselves to bring a season full of victories to Towson High. Intense workouts and around-the-clock practices have equipped the Lady Generals to succeed on the court.

Sophomore Shaeleigh La Casse, strong leader of the team, is a constant positive presence during practices and games. “She is always encouraging us,” comments freshman Danyelle Cole about her teammate. “She sends inspirational texts out to the whole team.” La Casse is recognized by the whole team as an optimistic and supportive young leader who always has a smile for her fellow teammates. Her bright attitude has inspired the team to stay fit and in shape during the season ahead, and in their lives beyond high school.

“[I] watch what I eat, sleep more, and bring up my grades,” explains Kayla Sullivan, a freshman at Towson. These approaches to leading a healthy life don’t just stop at graduation; healthy habits that keep the team fit and lean stay with them as they move on to college and adult life. Although a recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention verifies that only 27.1% of high school students participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day, increased participation in school sports like basketball can decrease the probability of obesity in later life. JV Girls clock in two hours or more of practice a day, twice the amount of recommended physical activity for teens.

Hard workout sessions and dedicated, nonstop practice have so far led the JV Girls’ Basketball team to one win out of two games. The team will only improve as their healthy lifestyles pay off with even more wins. Their next game is on January 6th, so come out and support our Generals!
