Varsity Soccer Girls Crush the 2014 Season
The girls’ Varsity and JV soccer teams had polar opposite seasons this year. The Varsity girls were victorious and the JV team unfortunately had one of their most unsuccessful seasons. The varsity seniors were proud that they were able to end the season with some wins, with the juniors hoping to carry on their legacy when they show the ropes to next year’s incoming girls. The JV players plan to use this season’s outcome to learn from their mistakes and to fuel their drive to have a more successful season.
Senior Katie Flores is pumped to continue her soccer career as a Seahawk next year at St.Mary’s college. Hopefully she will bring her Towson General spirit to her new team and make us proud. Below are senior Abby Coccagna’s and sophomore Dara Thomas’s perspectives on their season.
JV Player Dara Thomas
How did this season help the team grow?
We grew closer as a team on and off the field.
What are the team’s plans for next year?
To win states!
Which game was the team’s most successful, and how could the other games have been more like that one?
Our win against Sparrow’s Point, this year’s state champions. Other games could’ve been more like that one if we had been as motivated.
In your opinion, what contributed the most to the team’s successful season?
Good coach, no drama, and hard work.
Do you have any ideas for practice drills that would help the team?
More strength building exercises so we can always be the stronger team.
What is something you saw a teammate do that you feel the rest of the team should model?
Senior Kara McBride would run two miles every day before practice, and we could all try to model her self-discipline and motivation.
What helpful advice has your coach provided that the team should keep in mind for next year?
Our coach told us that “success in a journey, not a destination,” and I know we will all remember what he said next year.
If you were the coach for one practice, what would you have the girls work on?
If I was the coach, I would work on team building activities to help improve our communication and how we work together on the team.

Stay confident…and no drama!
