Obama: Comedian-In-Chief

The ending of Barack Obama’s presidential term got me thinking about what I will miss about our 44th president. I realized that Barack Obama had a sense of humor that no other chief executive has ever had. His ability to put a smile on people’s faces and leave a room echoing with laughter is unmatched. Let’s take a look at some of Obama’s funniest moments:

  • It didn’t take long for him show off his humor, showcasing his wits shortly after his inauguration in 2009. In an interview with CNBC, he paused the interview to take care of some business. He was bothered by a pesky fly and he focused in and was able to swat the fly dead. Obama flawlessly transitioned back into the interview as the fly laid there, lifeless.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYdSzAo1do4
  • Diplomatic relations are crucial for countries. One way to improve relations is to hold a meeting of the two nations’ leaders. A regular world leader would hold a meeting in a closed office for conference room. Not Obama. In 2010, he took Russian president Dimitry Medvedev out for some burgers. The two seemed to have great time. There is no better way to improve diplomatic relations than going out for some burgers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13HM_96pUIo
  • In 2014, videos surfaced of Obama and Vice President Joe Biden working out. They casually jogged around the white house. It was hilarious to see two men in ties jogging around like it was nobody’s business. https://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2014/feb/28/barack-obama-joe-biden-run-jog-white-house-video
  • There was a great moment between Obama and former president Bill Clinton. As Obama was entering Air Force One, Clinton was lagging behind. Obama then comes back out of the aircraft and yells, “Bill!” and urges Clinton to hurry up. http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/09/30/barack-obama-bill-clinton-lets-go-air-force-one-origwx-js.cnn
  • At a Correspondent’s Dinner, Obama brought out Luther the “anger translator”. Luther is a character created by comedians Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele. Michael-Key came up to the podium alongside Obama and recreated a famous sketch from “Key and Peele” But the segment ended with a plot twist as Obama turns too violent for Luther and forces him to leave. This video had me cracking up, and it is a must-watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkAK9QRe4ds
  • Toward the end of his second term, he had one of his most memorable moments as president. He concluded his State of the Union address by enforcing that the country is as strong as ever. He proceeded to throw all of his papers in the air and dropped the microphone. This moment made me realize that Obama is the coolest president in US history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWx9zSy04uA

These are just a few examples of Obama’s comedic ability. If you look up Obama’s funniest moments, there are results littered with hilarious moments during his presidency. Honestly, I will look back at Obama’s time as president and I won’t remember what he did for the country. The first thing that will come to my mind is the swag and comedic skill that brought a smile to so many people over the years.
