Cancer Awareness Field Hockey Game

Cancer Awareness Field Hockey Game

Glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive types of cancer and it is estimated that almost 10,000 people a year are getting this deadly disease. Risk factors for Glioblastoma include males over the age of 50, having abnormal chromosomes on chromosome 10 or 17, and if you’ve had a past of using radiation therapy as a treatment option for fungal infections, leukemia, or other previous cancers in the brain. Glioblastoma forms from astrocytes that support nerve cells. The symptoms are headaches, vomiting, and seizures. But as the tumor spreads, your whole body will be affected. Currently, the care for this type of cancer is radiation and chemotherapy, but treatment is relatively ineffective.

There is a foundation called the Glioblastoma Foundation which was founded by Gita Kwatra that was created in 2016 with the goal of finding and researching more effective therapies for Glioblastoma to extend survival for patients without compromising their quality of life. Towson High School would like to spread the word and make more people aware of the foundation!

On Saturday October 8th, at Towson High’s Turf, come to our annual Cancer Awareness Field Hockey Game at 11 AM. We will be playing Dulaney’s Varsity Field Hockey Team in honor of Coreen G. McGovern. Coreen McGovern was a loving and selfless woman. She was always ready to help the community and volunteer whenever she could! She grew up in Fallston, MD and ended up getting married and having three children (two of the three graduated from Towson High!). This is also a game where we will be celebrating our seniors as well! So please come out and support your fellow Towson Generals, the Glioblastoma Foundation, and most importantly Coreen G. McGovern’s family!
