THS Blood Drive 2017: Q&A with a Staff Member and Student
The Towson High school blood drive is an annual blood donation event held in the gym every year. The blood drive is sponsored by the Red Cross. The blood drive takes place in February and all THS juniors and seniors age 17 and older are able to donate. The blood drive’s purpose is to get staff and students to donate blood that is then donated by the Red Cross.
Mr. Jochmans:
Q: Can you describe what the THS Blood Drive is?
A: “In short, getting juniors and seniors to give blood for the Red Cross.”
Q: What would you say to students that want to donate blood, but might be afraid because of the needle?
A: “It’s a small prick. You’re saving a life – it’s good!”
Q: How did the blood drive become an annual event in THS?
A: “Always been a tradition!”
Leeannah McNew (12th ):
Q: Why did you decide to give blood?
A: “Always wanted to, it’s a way of contributing to someone.”
Q: Would you say the procedure is handled in a professional way?
A: “They were pretty good about it; it was handled well. They were well trained.”
Q: Could you describe how you felt after the donation?
A: ” I was glad to get pizza. I felt good after; I’m not the kind to get lightheaded. I can get up and do stuff.”
Q: Was this an exciting experience?
A: ” Yeah, definitely. I’ll definitely do it again.”
