Girls' Varsity Lacrosse

Last Tuesday the girls’ varsity lacrosse team played a hard and exiting game against the Hereford Bulls. Every ear for the past century, they have fought back and forth for county, regional, and state titles. Usually, Towson is the underdog.

Now after 4 years and six games against the Bulls, Towson girl’s lacrosse has finally brought home a big win. Their coach, Jamie Guffini, says, “We have been preparing since March 1st for this game. We have practiced tremendously hard, pushing each other every day. We started the season off with playing state ranked teams only to pick out our flaws to improve them.”

In the beginning of the first half, seniors Jamie Schneidereith and Maggie Schneidereith were winning the draws and controlling the ball in the offensive side, leading to freshman Riley Hartman scoring two goals and junior Alicia DeFlippe scoring one.

On the defensive side, seniors Lexy Smith and Dalaney Blottenberger were determined to keep the Bulls from scoring. Lexy Smith says, “Going into this game it’s very important to mark up and stay communicating. They’re nothing we can’t handle and am confident in my team and I know we will win.” In the first half, the Bulls scored four goals, leaving the score at 4-2.

During half time, the team talked about what to focus on starting the second half. After a five minute half time it was time to start again. Seniore Cathrine DellaSantina says, “We knew going into second half we have to bring all what we had. We had the drive to win and we were motivated to do it.” They had twenty five minutes to prove to themselves and others they’re capable of winning.

The game was back and forth the entire game, the Bulls being up by one for most of the second half. At one point, Hereford was up by three goals and that’s when the level of intensity form the Towson girls rose. With seven seconds left in the game, Towson was charged with a foul, leading to a free position shot from the Bulls, which senior goalie Georgia Schniedereith saved.

When the final buzz rang, the team ran out onto the field tackling Georgia and congratulating each other on the win.
The bus ride home was filled with loud cheering and chanting.
