The Art Field Trip: Big Inspiration in the Big Apple
For most Towson students, February 2nd was just another normal school day, but for many upperclassmen art students, that day was spent doing something much more exciting: exploring art museums in New York City! Whether they went to get inspiration for their own work or just to have fun, the students all seemed to agree that it was a fascinating trip.
While on the field trip, Towson artists were able to go to world famous museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Senior Mariam Salahvarzi was one of the students who went to these museums for her own amusement. “The trip was amazing and so much fun,” she said. “I loved seeing Van Gogh and Picasso’s work!”
Other Towson students were able to end their artists’ blocks through inspiration from the artwork. “I was fortunate enough to see the works of Picasso, Van Gogh, and Warhol,” senior Tim Prieto commented. “However, the work of Jackson Pollock stood out the most. I’ve made a couple of abstract pieces that had an aspect like Pollock’s. I didn’t know what to do with them before, but now I feel if I incorporate abstraction, I feel like I could enhance my portfolio.”
Although the art students went on the trip for different reasons, Towson’s artists did have one thing in common that day: the inspiration they got from seeing world famous masterpieces.
