The National English Honor Society is Coming to Towson

While reviewing the current list of Towson’s prestigious honor societies, one might find a bit of a gap when it comes to the humanities. While math, science, and foreign language enthusiasts can gather to discuss and share their talents with the school, English aficionados have not yet had the same opportunity. That is, however, until now.

This spring, Ms. Zava and Ms. Fluharty are bringing a chapter of the National English Honor Society to Towson High. The goal of the organization will be to bring writing and reading lovers alike together to make new friends and promote excellence in English throughout the school. Planned events include a student-run writing lab for all Towson students as well as opportunities to promote reading in the community.

Between Ms. Zava’s passion for rhetoric and psychology and Ms. Fluharty’s vast knowledge of literature and history, the two will make a perfect team of co-advisors for covering all things English. The national minimum requirements for membership in the National English Honor Society include completion of at least two semesters of high school English with a minimum 3.0 English GPA. For Towson’s chapter, there will be a few other requirements considered for membership, which are currently being decided. Applications for membership in next year’s society will begin this spring. Check back in a few weeks for information on how to apply.
