Lanterns Light the Way

On February 3, 2015, hundreds of lanterns lined the hallways of Towson High School to “light the way for students to make good decisions,” in the words of Ms. Hardesty, our school nurse and Students Against Destructive Decisions advisor (SADD). The lanterns were displayed by members from our SGA, SADD, and Environmental Club, who collected recycled bottles and cut and cleaned them.

The majority of the lanterns were created by the students in Fundamentals of Art. This event was a collective effort to participate in National Shine Day, where many chapters around the state of Maryland aimed to “recognize all the students who are actively working against destructive decisions.” In honor of the day, County Executive Kevin Kamenetz signed the local Shine Day Proclamation, and Larry Hogan signed the state Shine Day proclamation.

If you’re interested in participating in these types of activities, SADD is still open for new members. Please see Ms. Hardesty for more information.
