Trick or Treating is Facing an Age Limit

As we all know you need to reach a certain age to drink, to buy juul pods,

and now possibly for trick or treating. One day out of the year you can dress up

with friends, go to parties, and bring out your inner kid. Cramming your brain for

exams or working hour after hour. Except this one day out of the year where you can

dress crazy, stay out late, go door to door meeting new people and experiencing the

smile on everyone’s face just from a handful of candy. Reminding you being a kid

sometimes brings out a happiness you don’t see every day, and most of all making

memories.

According the “Free Range” section on Reason.Com, “in Chesapeake, Virginia you can face fines

and up to six months of jail time for trick or treating over the age 13. In Newport

News, Virginia kids over the age 12 or past seventh grade could be hit with a

misdemeanor. Finally, in North Carolina towns have enforced cutoff age and a

curfew of 9pm.”

“I think its dumb there shouldn’t be an age limit some naturally grow out of

trick or treating for a while but eventually spring their way back in it” stating

Arteeman Jadali an 11th grade student at Towson high Student.

Start looking at it from another perspective there could be something

beneficial about this. Some kids are doing it just for the free candy, others being

ignorant and taking advantage of the holiday. Older teens suffering from health

issues that they don’t even know they have like diabetes, blood pressure, etc.

having a “sugar rush” at an all-time high and doing reckless things because of it.

Shakira Cummings at Parkville High says, “I feel that there should be an

age limit because the purpose of the holiday is for little ones to enjoy receiving

treats by using their manners to say trick or treat, as children get older, they

typically use the holiday to be able to take advantages of getting free candy. I feel

parents should regulate how much candy is being eaten for health reasons”

Clearly this is an issue talked about all over Baltimore county and all over

the country. Who knew trick or treating such a basic thing could turn into an

debate.
