Welcome, Class of 2020

Welcome, Class of 2020

Remember walking into Towson for the first time as a freshman? There were probably butterflies in your stomach as you thought of how you were going to get around the school and find your classes. It might have seemed scary going to a big new school with over 1000 students, but the class of 2020 seems to have a handle on things in their first couple weeks at Towson.

I met with about 10 freshman and asked them questions about their year so far (and brought them some doughnuts for agreeing to meet me so early in the morning).

First, I asked the freshmen what they thought when they walked in the building on August 24th. Going from an orientation of just freshman to a school with hundreds of students is a big difference, and they could tell.  Almost all of them exclaimed that they thought the school was enormous,  especially with hundreds of students walking around. They were a bit overwhelmed but they soon got the hang of walking around without any help.  Freshman Jenny Migera said, “Everyone was welcoming us to the new school and was so nice!”

I then asked what they are most looking forward to this year and upcoming years at Towson. Adele Berkowitz raised her voice in excitement: “I’m so excited to take photo next year! That’s one of the classes that I’ve been looking forward to being a part of.”

Freshman Artimen Jadali says he is looking forward to homecoming this year. What freshman wouldn’t be excited for their first high school dance? The rest of the students chimed in on how they can’t wait to go to prom and even get asked to prom (which was funny to listen to, since it is so far in the future).

Emma Kirts made the varsity soccer team this year, which she was ecstatic about. She says, “Being a freshman on varsity is so much fun! I got to make some friends before school started at tryouts and the seniors are so nice.”

Catesby Ware and Caelinn Satterfield both mentioned how they can’t wait to make more friends – a feeling we all had as freshman. With so many students in the school, you want to become friends with everyone you can.

We’ve all had similar feelings to this year’s freshman, both eager and scared of high school. This was a place we dreamed about as kids and it has finally come for these freshman. The class of 2020 is eager to start their high school years and they are also excited to make new memories with their friends and peers.
