Fun Winter Activities

It’s February and it is now finally starting to feel like winter. One of the warmest winters we’ve ever had is starting to feel like its true self. Icicles are dangling from gutters like dormant bats and a blanket of snow is covering the frozen earth. Sixty degree weather and days filled with sunshine are finally giving way to frosted mornings and icy gusts. With the change in temperature, it’s time to plan out some fun winter activities.

All ski resorts have just opened up and there are only a few things better than zooming down some fresh snow with the wind whistling through your hair while you whiz past other riders. Resorts such as Liberty, Round Top, and Wisp are some of the most popular options. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, or tubing, the winter ski resorts offer the perfect place to have some extreme fun.

For the people who wish to stay close to home, when snow falls, old sledding hills come to life. The dull brown grasses of winter become a snowy wonderland and hills become the perfect alternative to ski resorts. One of the best hills in the Towson area is the hill at the Board of Education next to Loyola High School. On any given snow day you will be sure to see multitudes of kids flying over bumps and hand-made ramps down one of the largest hills in the Baltimore County area.

When the cold becomes too much, the Towson Cinemark is a great place to warm up and see one of the latest films. Top notch facilities, warm leather seats, and a plethora of snacks make it ideal for watching all of the great new movies bursting onto the scene. Stars Wars, Creed, The Revenant, and Daddy’s Home are all hot new choices.

For those who prefer to remain inside but still experience the wonders of winter, the ice rink is a great option. You can take a trip to a rink, rent some skates, and skate all you want.

Another fantastic indoor option is bowling. The Stoneleigh Lanes offer a great throwback activity and the karaoke nights on Fridays make it a perfect place to hang with friends.

While winter may make the days shorter, the nights darker, and the air chillier, there are still a plethora of fun activities available to everyone. From snowboarding to bowling to movie-watching, the options are endless. So don’t spend your winter dreading it. Get out there and have some fun!
