“And now to Patrick Hutson with the It’s Academic trivia question of the day!”

You know them from the eccentric and fascinating questions asked on the morning announcements. What you may not know, however, is that the Towson It’s Academic team is just as good at answering the questions as they are at asking them.

Four weeks in to the school year, on September 19th, the It’s Academic team travelled to the WJZ Channel 13 News Station to test their knowledge of trivia against Patterson Mill and Annapolis. Senior Walker Miller-Breetz and senior captain Patrick Hutson were part of the team last year, but the third team member, sophomore Mason Miller-Breetz, had been chosen the week before the match.

The team has a lot to live up to, as last year, former captain Walter Young led them to the finals of the competition, where they came in second overall. After watching their game on the 19th, however, you can see that this year’s team has a good chance of making it to the finals again, because Towson’s total score was a whopping 735 points, a school record.

“It was the best game I’d ever seen them play,” proclaimed Ms. Meehan, the It’s Academic advisor and coach.

During the picture round of the event, where teams are given questions accompanied by images, Towson dominated, answering every single question before the other teams could even buzz in.

“The highest score we’d ever gotten before was 645, and very few teams even achieve more than 700,” said Patrick Hutson. All of the scores of the past games are hanging on the wall in Ms. Meehan’s room, and this last game will be a welcome addition to the collection.

The game will air on television this Saturday, October 3rd, at 10 a.m. on CBS, so be sure to test your own trivia skills as you watch Towson make history.
